Gapkindo: Rubber Price 2017 Below 2016

The Indonesian Rubber Companies Association (Gapkindo) of North Sumatra estimates that the export price of SIR20 rubber by the end of 2017 is lower than the average of 2016.

"In 2016, the average export price of SIR20 rubber could still be 1.81 US dollars per kilogram, while this year is estimated at 1.50 US dollars," said Executive Secretary Gapkindo Sumut Edy Irwansyah in Medan, Thursday (6 / 7).

The lower price assumption, he said, refers to the price that has occurred in the previous months and the offer price in the stock market until the end of 2017.

On July 4, for example, the export price of rubber for shipment in August was 1.56 US dollars / kg. For shipments in December, also only rose slightly or 1.59 US dollars.

"The low export price is of course concerning, let alone recorded the lowest compared to the average price period 2012 s.d. 2016 which has reached 2.02 US dollars / kg," said Edy.

According to him, the low price is still driven by the recovery of the global economy. Although demand shows an increase, according to him, still not maximal.

Although not yet recovered compared to previous years, said Head of Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Sumut Syech Suhaimi, export value of rubber and goods from North Sumatra rubber period January s.d. May 2017 has gone up 79.62 percent from the same period of 2016 or reached 700.657 million US dollars.

The largest export of such goods to Japan or up to 124.359 million US dollars. In fact, exports to Japan in 2017 rose 85.41 percent from the same period of 2016 which is still worth 67.071 million US dollars. After to Japan, North Sumatra's largest rubber export is to the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the United States.
